In this brief essay, I attempt to enter into the work of five scholars: Robin M. Boylorn, Lesa Lockford, Chris Poulos, Larry Russell, and Carolyn Ellis. I listen for their voices, for how their words have come to me and live in me. I reach for them, hoping that in my reach I am not too clumsy, too abrupt, or too off the mark. I write, trying to hear.
