How can we make the best use of qualitative research for the new rural problems in the age of globalism? I present my reflections on this question by introducing the reflexive relationships between rural problems and rural studies in contemporary Japan. Then I propose my own qualitative research project aiming to reaffirm the values of farming and rural life from the standpoint of rural people. Lastly, I reveal some of my provisional findings.
